Pharmacy chain Rite Aid has announced the closure of 53 more stores, including 18 in California, adding to the nearly 200 it has already shuttered since filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection last year, according to KTLA.
The Philadelphia-based company started closing stores after filing for bankruptcy protection in mid-October. Over 150 stores across 15 states were closed initially, followed by an additional 31 stores in late November. More closures took place at the start of this year.

- 1650 Decoto Road in Union City
- 888 Lincoln Boulevard in Venice
- 35946 Winchester Road in Winchester
- 3941 Spring Road in Moorpark
- 4037 Ball Road in Cypress

The troubled brand reported annual losses for several years and has faced financial risk from lawsuits over opioid prescriptions. The company has already reached multiple settlements, including one with the state of West Virginia for up to $30 million.
The recent court filings didn't say when these stores will shutter. While objections could be filed against these store closures, none were listed in the case docket as of April 10.
The closures are part of Rite Aid's ongoing efforts to turn around its business and reduce its debt load.
